What Hosting Involves
Your evening, start to goodnight
45 minutes before
Arrive ahead of the guests. Say hello to the restaurant team, find the table, and take a breath — your evening starts calm.
Liaising with the restaurant
You're the friendly point of contact on the night. If the kitchen has a question or a booking needs a tweak, it comes to you.
As guests arrive
Greet people, learn names, make the first introductions. The first ten minutes set the tone — and you set the first ten minutes.
Keeping conversation flowing
A gentle nudge here, a question there. If one end of the table goes quiet, you're the thread that pulls it back in.
An eye on the room
Quietly make sure nobody goes without food, a drink, or someone to talk to. Small catches, big difference.
Settling the bill & goodnight
Make sure the bill is settled with the restaurant, thank the team, and send everyone off into the night. Job done.

What hosting is (and isn't)
We keep the role deliberately light. The events team plans the dinner, fills the table and books the venue — you look after the room on the night.
If you can welcome someone warmly and notice when a glass is empty, you can host.
- Greeting guests and smoothing the introductions
- Being the restaurant's point of contact on the night
- A quiet eye on the table so nobody's left out
- Making sure the bill is settled before goodnight
- Performing, MC-ing, or being the loudest voice
- Cooking, waiting tables, or running the venue
